The problem
Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) operations require reliable area communications, security, and lighting... unfortunately, these human and/or man-made disasters often take weeks, if not months, to get these requirements re-established... BUT, it doesn't have to take that long.
Our Solution
The team at Ascender Systems has patented a climbing robot that can scale utility/light/flag poles, pipes, and columns of varying shapes from 3 inches to 22 inches.
Our prototype climber will ascend to the desired height, and install a leave-behind, equipped with notional comms gear, lighting, security cameras, satellite uplink, and/or solar panels... all reconfigurable by our customers.
Our system creates exceptional value through its affordable "climbing robot's" many use-cases such as terrestrial wildlife/deforestation monitoring (SDG 15), remote weather monitoring (SDG 13), and sustainable back-up to unreliable electrical infrastructures (SDG 7 and 11).
Awards/Recognition
Our team is proud to have participated and won two prestigious accolades from the University of San Diego and to be representing our school in the Global Social Innovation Challenge 2023 in Minneapolis. To find out more, visit GSIC 2023 here.
In November 2022, we presented an early-stage Minimum Viable Product (MVP) for a robotic palm tree decorator (yes, it actually works!) then-called "Deck the Palms." We are honored that our design and pitch won first place at the 2022 Fowler Business Concept Challenge.
In April 2023, we built upon our MVP to design to include a "leave-behind" system (that can be equipped with gear that supports HADR operations). Our Ascender Systems won first place for the inaugural 2023 USD Innovation Challenge.
